Your Voice Matters – Here’s How RPEI Is Fighting for You

Dear RPEI Member,

Last October, the Retired Public Employees of Idaho (RPEI) launched with little more than a website and a shared conviction: that PERSI retirees deserve a voice. When you consider active, inactive, and retired members combined, nearly 200,000 people have a stake in PERSI — yet none had organized representation. We set out to change that.

Building an organization from the ground up is not easy. Membership is the foundation of credibility, and our growth so far has come almost entirely through word of mouth and member referrals. Thanks to your support, we now have 278 members — a meaningful start, though we will need significantly more to drive real change.

To expand our reach, we are exploring partnerships with allied organizations, direct outreach campaigns, and a stronger social media presence.

We are proud of what we have already accomplished on your behalf. RPEI representatives have met with the PERSI Executive Director and Board Chairman, and we have testified before legislative committees in both the Idaho House of Representatives and the Senate. Awareness of PERSI member needs among decision-makers is meaningfully higher than it was a year ago.

As we enter our next phase, RPEI is evolving from a start-up into a more structured organization. We are building out committees in key areas — marketing, communications, technology, and legislative liaison — and working to ensure our leadership reflects the full geographic and occupational diversity of PERSI membership across Idaho. The stronger our internal structure, the more effectively we can serve every member.

There is important work ahead, and we need your help to do it.

If you would like to get more involved, please reach out through the VOLUNTEER tab at RPEI.info. Even a small contribution of time and expertise can make a real difference.

Thank you for being part of RPEI’s first year — and for everything that comes next.

WHAT WE DO

The primary objective of the Retired Public Employees of Idaho (RPEI) is to advocate for the rights and benefits of the Public Employment Retirement System of Idaho (PERSI) retirees. We will meet with Idaho legislators, testify before legislative committees, and engage with PERSI Board members and officials.

Why We're Here

Inflation rose 22.7% from August 2019 to August 2024. Your PERSI benefit went up only 8%. The S&P 500 grew more than 90%. Something isn’t right. The RPEI is here to ask why you are not getting the return on investment that you should and to do something about it.

Who We Are

The Retired Public Employees of Idaho is a newly formed non-profit organization. It was established by retired Idaho public employees to protect the PERSI retirement benefits earned by all retired public employees as well as future PERSI retirees.

Will You Join Us?

In 2024, the average monthly PERSI benefit was around $1920. The 2025 increase was about $25 a month. It wasn’t much, and it won’t get much better unless we work together to do something about it. Please join us to create an effective organization to advocate for the retirement benefit into which you and your PERSI employer invested every payday during your years of service.
